2022-10-17—First Official Weekly Update

Good morning! Progress continues incrementally with, if nothing else, word counts going up (or down, preferably, in editing) every week. Here’s some quick updates on the three books I’m working on right now:

The Failed Technomancer

The Failed Technomancer is currently with the line editor. Because of how slammed editors are right now, I was told back when I first sent the book in that I shouldn’t expect it back for my review until the beginning of December. Provided everything goes on schedule, I will apply all edits and do a final polish in December and then send the book back in January for formatting, and then early February it will be available for purchase! I will also spend January doing audio work for the audio book, so the first month of 2023 is going to be busy. I don’t expect a lot of updates for this book prior to December as a result.

(Hot tip: I currently plan on putting The Failed Technomancer up for free for about a month when I first publish it, ebook and audiobook. Why? As a brand-new author, I care way more about getting my book in as many people’s hands as possible [and then getting reviews from them] than making a few bucks off each copy, at least initially. If I want to turn this into a life-long career, I need to cultivate a loyal following by getting as many people as possible to read The Failed Technomancer and then let the writing speak for itself. The less barriers for readers, the better.)

Just to be clear, The Failed Technomancer is the first book in the Robot Cannibal Apocalypse (RCA) trilogy. I plan on writing two books in between The Failed Technomancer and the second RCA book (tentatively titled The God Technomancer), both of which I’ll provide details on below, and both of which are set in a different universe from RCA. I plan on finishing the RCA trilogy after those two books, so The God Technomancer is planned for the end of 2024/beginning of 2025. These are doorstoppers and working with editors takes time, so we’ll see.

Inner Demons

Inner Demons (set in the Third Realm series/universe; fantasy, not sci-fi) is a standalone novel about Gnyphe (pronounced “Knife”), a girl who woke up in an alley with no memories of her past and the mysterious ability to use shadows as portals. My writing group is nearly finished with this book, after which it will go to the editor for substantive edits. I really hope that I can publish this at the end of 2023, meaning that you can keep your fingers crossed for two books next year.

Grand Odyssey (Working Title)

I am having a ton of fun with this book! Also set in the Third Realm series/universe, Grand Odyssey is going to be a consciously lighter-hearted, funnier book than The Failed Technomancer and Inner Demons. I like my books with heavier tones and plan on writing more, but I also want to balance them out with more adventure- and humor-focused works. Grand Odyssey will be the beginning of that trend, and there will be more.

Grand Odyssey currently sits at 36,000 words. My current goal is a minimum of 3,000 words a day, so hopefully next week I can report that the book is sitting at 51,000 words or more! I predict that this book, like my previous two novels, will sit between 130,000 and 150,000 words in its completed form. I’ll need to really pick up the pace to complete this book before December—at which point I plan on shifting all of my focus to incorporating The Failed Technomancer‘s line edits—but I won’t sacrifice quality and vision for speed.

(Also, if my writing group is reading this, I apologize for how much I’m writing. No one has time to read all of this, much less writers with publishing aspirations of their own and master’s degrees to complete. Good luck, y’all!)

What Else?

The website has a subscribe button now! You can find it on the left-hand toolbar. Please subscribe, or follow me on Twitter, or check out my Facebook business page, to keep up with updates as they come out.

Last but not least, I may have found a cover artist! Hopefully I can provide updates on cover art next week, but I doubt that I’ll actually be able to show off the cover art for a while. I hope that The Failed Technomancer‘s cover will be equal parts creepy and engaging.

Until next week, I wish you all well! Big up!
