Failed Technomancer
Things are looking good! My audio guy figured out his equipment problems and told me that he’s full steam ahead right now. Woohoo!
Inner Demon
I am at about 220 pages edited out of my goal to be at 250 today. At least, the page that I am looking at is 220, so in that regard I haven’t quite hit my goal. However, the manuscript has gone from about 400 pages to about 360 pages, so if you include total page count reduction I’m at roughly 260. Average that out to 240… I’m doing okay.
Over the weekend I signed a contract for developmental edits on the book, so I’m going to make sure that I’m finished with my current round of edits before February 20th. I love seeing progress!
Other Projects
Basically everything else is taking backseat to the online course on self-publishing. I’m learning a lot of interesting things, and among other things I’ve decided that I’ll want to go wide with my books rather than exclusive—in other words, don’t go with Amazon alone, but to put my ebooks and physical books wherever I can get them.
I’ve been toying with the idea of adjusting this website from a weekly blog-style update to a monthly newsletter—more on that as I learn about newsletters and how they work! Taking everything in a bit at a time and not overwhelming myself with everything I need to learn and, eventually, master is… overwhelming!
Conclusion
I’ve been reading The Lost Metal recently and enjoying the book. (I originally posted Alloy of Law mistakenly—no, I finished that book years ago.) I’m not as big a fan of intrusive Cosmere elements as some Sanderson fans are, although I am fully aware that Mistborn and Stormlight are moving more explicitly in that direction as time goes on. Oh well. At least Wax and Wayne are as fun as ever.
Assuming Tress and the Emerald Sea continues to take a while to come in, my next read might be The Reluctant Swordsman (Dave Duncan). Yes, despite my best efforts to stay current, all of my internet sleuthing continues to lead me to old books that I’ve never heard anything about before, then getting too excited to find another book. But the premise of the book is hilarious! A middle-aged “modern” American man (“modern” considering the book was published in the late 80s) goes to the hospital, falls asleep, and wakes up in the body of barbarian warrior on another planet essentially determines that he must be having a coma-induced hallucination. I don’t know if the book itself is a comedy, but that premise had enough potential that I couldn’t not put it next on my reading list.
Anyway, that’s everything on my mind right now. Have an excellent day!
