I think the title says it all.
The Failed Technomancer
WOOHOO, THE FINAL FILES ARE IN! This week, The Failed Technomancer is going to be made available everywhere ebooks are sold and some places print books are sold (online, anyway). I think. I’m still learning how to upload files and set everything up correctly on the various vendor websites, but I imagine that at the absolute bare minimum I’ll have some Amazon links to share next week.
This is it, guys! Book one! And progress is already going well on Inner Demon and Grand Odyssey! It’s no Sanderson secret release, that’s for sure, but I’m feeling some momentum. Are you?
The audio files are still being worked on by my audio guy, so if you prefer audiobook I’ll provide an update when I get one—hopefully by next Monday.
(Just to be clear, Inner Demon and Grand Odyssey are not sequels to The Failed Technomancer. They are stand-alone fantasy novels set in the Third Realm universe.)
Inner Demon and Grand Odyssey
I’ll receive Inner Demon from my editor sometime after the end of this month, then that book will go into one last round of major edits (from me) before all that’s left are little tweaks. Still shooting for a release around the holidays this year, but I’m not giving specific dates because I’ve learned I’m not yet in a stage of my indie author career where I can do that with any accuracy.
As for Grand Odyssey, my rough draft has 124 pages and I managed to edit myself through about 65 of them last week. Honestly, not happy with that progress, wish I pushed myself harder, but I won’t complain about the everything else I did last week, which includes work toward securing a regular job, finishing my indie publishing class, and laying more groundwork for a successful indie publishing career. There’s just… so much to do to get started. Maybe I’m trying to do too much all at once, but I’ve always been the kind of person to juggle maybe one too many projects.
So, once again, goal is to finish editing this week and to be able to start giving you word count updates again next week, but we’ll see. If I do keep that schedule, I’ll actually start writing part 2 of Grand Odyssey about the same time I get edits back for Inner Demon and will need to work on that project, so we’ll see.
Quick Bloggyness
I finished the Shattered Sea trilogy (Joe Abercrombie) last week, the final book being Half a War. Long story short, I loved the second book overall (Half the World), I loved the first half of the first book (Half a King), and I loved how interesting worldbuilding aspects of the third book finally tightly tied into the main plot (Half a War).
Each book follows different protagonists, although Yarvi (from the first book) maintains a strong presence in every book. Dark fantasy world with a viking flare. The themes… most major characters are driven by hate and vengeance, and they largely come to a bad end or just continue repeating the cycle of vengeance, murder, and hate, ending the series as the person in charge that will one day be destroyed by the people that swore vengeance against them. One character, at the very end, escapes this cycle… well, by being the one merciful character, also surrounded by bloodthirsty allies who kill everyone trying to kill her. Left me with a feeling that was a little mixed, but, all in all, I enjoyed this unique series.
Next up: The Stranger Times (CK McDonnell)—already halfway through, and this is a funny book, though a bit more sweary than I like—and Tress of the Emerald Sea (Brandon Sanderson)—a few chapters in reading this to my wife, and this book is also funny, and very heartfelt. Plus, the physical version of the book that came from the Sanderson Secret Projects Kickstarter is gorgeous. Easily the highest-quality physical book I’ve owned, and I’m glad that so far the inner contents are living up to the outer presentation.
That’s enough bloggyness for today.
