2023-10-30—Pebble Cloudeye Motivational Speaking

Hello, friends! You want to know a good way to get yourself feeling really sore and beaten up? Work a desk job, write during the spare minutes that other people would be exercising, and then go and spend ten hours flooring a house. I tested this process last Saturday and, let me tell you, it works really well. I’m not sure my knees and I will be on speaking terms for a while.

The Failed Technomancer, chapter 13, is live! This chapter is about Cortex, and another mysterious rozie, as things start to get really heated in Fort…

Also, The Courage in a Small Heart is completed! Or, at least, my version, which is around 18,000 words, is completed. Now I need to edit a version that will be submitted to the Writers of the Future contest, and that means I need to shave it down to 17,000 words. Might be a little difficult, but I think it will be worth it.

I have no idea when I will be able to publicly post this story. I probably won’t do so until I hear from Writers of the Future whether or not I am in any way in the running for the 2024 Q1 contest. The rights for all stories (even the winning ones) fully remain in the author’s hands with Writers of the Future, but I want to play it on the careful side—I doubt any of the judges pay any attention to this blog whatsoever, but it doesn’t hurt to keep my cards close to my chest until I know if I have a winning hand. But, as soon as I am able, I will start posting that story to this blog.

However, to help tide you over, here’s a quote from the story that my writing group described as “coffee mug worthy”:

You can’t be brave without being scared. Maybe those with the most fear have the most potential for courage.

Anyway, that’s it for this short week. No reviews—unfortunately, I missed my chance to see Renfield this weekend. I have it on good authority that the movie is pretty funny, though, if you are the type that can find bloody, gory stuff funny. (And if you are in that camp, watch Hot Fuzz. That movie is hilarious!) As for writing stuff, my main update is above, and the rest of my projects are still where they were when mentioned last week.

Much shorter than the norm, and my apologies, but I gotta go—have a good one!
