2025-06-04—Inner Demon Release Journey, Part 1

When Gnyphe’s best friend Kat vanishes, she’ll stop at nothing to get her back. But in the vast, lawless Chamberpot district, missing streetlings are rarely found—even by a girl who can teleport through shadows.

As she digs deeper, Gnyphe uncovers a chilling link between Kat’s disappearance and her own fractured past. Worse, the shadowy creature behind her powers starts feeding on the very memories she needs to solve the mystery—like it wants her to forget.

With time running out and her identity slipping through her fingers, Gnyphe must face a harrowing question:

How much of yourself are you willing to lose to find the truth?

And we’ve made it! It’s been a long, long journey, delayed by moving twice, filled with lots of lessons on how to craft a book and run the business side of being an indie author, but we’re here—Inner Demon. My second (to-be) published book. About a month off of release for ebook and print copies. Audiobook, unfortunately, won’t be available until later this year, hopefully August.

Here’s what the outline of what to expect for this and the next three pre-release posts:

  • A character portrait is unveiled, paired with a quote and description
  • A sample chapter from Inner Demon is released
  • Pre-order options are provided (click here to skip to those)

Without further ado… Let’s do this!

Character Portrait: Gnyphe

Maybe if I knew such things about whoever I once was, I might have been grateful to start over. But I was never given that opportunity. When I woke up in that alley, I had nothing… I wasn’t lucky like you.

Gnyphe (pronounced knife) woke up in an alley four years ago with the mysterious ability to teleport through shadows and no memory of her past. Life as a streetling was unbelievably hard, but through her wits and her unique gift she survived and dedicated herself to discovering her past. As time wore on and the likelihood of success grew dimmer, Gnyphe gradually slowed down and made connections—even fell into a found family of sorts—but always at the back of her mind are the questions, “What have I lost? How will I get it back?”

Inner Demon Chapter 2: Shadows

Little Jonno, like Gnyphe, was a streetling. He was short and wiry, still young enough for his cheeks to be slightly rounded despite a streetling’s spare diet, with sandy hair and light skin. Startled, Little Jonno ducked into a shadow made by the second-floor overhang of a nearby building, nearly melting into the darkness; had Gnyphe not seen him hide, she might have thought the side street was empty. She put her hands on her hips, impressed with the boy’s reflexes.

“Jonno, it’s me, Gnyphe. Also, Tactan,” Gnyphe said. Tactan waved.

Little Jonno’s face emerged from the shadow, a dusting of freckles on his light brown cheeks making him appear dirtier than he actually was. He looked Gnyphe over, then raised an eyebrow. “How do I know you’re not just some changeling here to suck out my brains?”
